Southfield, Michigan --- On Saturday, May 21, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 15680 JL
Hudson Drive, Southfield, MI 48075, The Revolution Church and parent leaders organizing
Strengthening Families Metro Detroit hosted a Community Café "the Take Over". This effort working
closely with Michigan Children's Trust Fund, Michigan's Circle of Parents, and Lion Wise Consulting
in support of Strengthening Families is pleased to share conversation harvest.
Community Cafes are parent hosted gatherings of neighborhood residents and community
members who participate in a series of guided conversations. These conversations build community
wisdom and parent voice to impact policy, practice, and action to improve the lives of children and
their families. Topics include the five protective factors that need to be in place to ensure a child’s
wellbeing, leadership development, and parent partnership with community. Community partners
are, but are not limited: the early learning and childcare settings, schools, faith-based organizations,
service programs and social service systems. Our next cafe TBA!!!
Throughout the year, WE, encourage all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Metro
Detroit a better place for families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources
they need to care for their children, we can help prevent child abuse and neglect by strengthening
families and communities. Research shows that five important factors are present in healthy
families. Promoting these factors is among the most effective ways to reduce the risk of child abuse
and neglect. Everyone’s participation is critical. Focusing on ways to promote the five protective
factors, in every interaction with families, is the best thing our community can do to strengthen
families and prevent child abuse and neglect.
